Description
Introduction of Lox Heavy 5% Injection
Lox Heavy 5% Injection is a local anesthetic used for spinal anesthesia, which numbs the lower part of the body during surgery. It contains two active ingredients, lignocaine hydrochloride and dextrose.
Lox Heavy 5% Injection is given as an injection into the fluid around the spinal cord (intrathecal use) by an anesthesiologist or a trained healthcare professional in a hospital. It must not be self-administered. The dose depends on the type and length of the surgery, the height of the block needed, and your age, build, and general health. Your blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing will be monitored closely during and after the procedure. Tell your doctor before the procedure if you have any allergy, heart disease, low blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, or a bleeding disorder, or if you are taking blood-thinning medicines.
A drop in blood pressure, nausea, and slow heartbeat are among the most common side effects of this medicine. Headache and backache can occur after the procedure. Inform your doctor or nurse immediately if you notice difficulty in breathing, numbness or weakness that lasts longer than expected, difficulty passing urine, ringing in the ears, or signs of an allergic reaction such as rash or swelling of the face.
Uses of Lox Heavy 5% Injection:
- Spinal anesthesia for surgical procedures, especially of the lower abdomen, pelvis, and lower limbs
Benefits of Lox Heavy 5% Injection:
1. Spinal anesthesia
Spinal anesthesia blocks the nerves in the lower body so that the patient feels no pain during surgery while remaining awake or lightly sedated. Lox Heavy 5% Injection gives a rapid and reliable block, which makes it suitable for operations on the lower abdomen, pelvis, and legs.
2. Controlled spread of the block
Lox Heavy 5% Injection is heavier than the spinal fluid because it contains dextrose. This allows the anesthesiologist to guide the spread of the medicine by positioning the patient, which helps achieve the right level of numbness.
3. Short duration of action
The effect of lignocaine in a spinal block is relatively short. This makes Lox Heavy 5% Injection useful for short procedures, and patients usually regain movement and sensation sooner than with longer-acting anesthetics.
Side Effects of Lox Heavy 5% Injection:
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you are worried about them.

Mechanism of action of Lox Heavy 5% Injection:
Lox Heavy 5% Injection is a local anesthetic. Its active ingredient, lignocaine, blocks the sodium channels in the membranes of nerve cells. This stops the nerves from sending pain signals and other sensations to the brain, which results in numbness and loss of movement in the area below the level of the injection. Dextrose makes the solution heavier than the spinal fluid, so it settles in the lower part of the spinal canal according to the position of the patient. This is how it produces spinal anesthesia.
