Description
Introduction Of Jilazo 100mg Injection:
Jilazo 100mg Injection is an intravenous iron preparation (Iron (III) Isomaltoside 1000) used to treat iron deficiency anaemia. It is a solution for injection or infusion, and each ml contains 100 mg of iron. One 5 ml vial therefore provides 500 mg of iron.
Jilazo 100mg Injection is given into a vein by a doctor or trained nurse, either as an infusion or a slow injection, in a hospital or clinic where emergency care is available. It is not for self-injection. Your doctor works out the total iron you need from your body weight and your haemoglobin level, and may give it in a single visit or in smaller doses. It is generally used when iron tablets do not work, cannot be tolerated, or when iron needs to be replaced quickly. Store the vial below 25°C, protect it from light and moisture, and do not freeze it.
Tell your doctor before the injection if you have had an allergic reaction to an iron injection, if you have liver disease, an active infection, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You will be watched for a short time after the dose for signs of an allergic reaction. Report a rash, difficulty breathing, dizziness, or swelling of the face immediately.
Uses Of Jilazo 100mg Injection:
- Iron deficiency anaemia
- Postpartum anaemia
- Anaemia related to cancer and chemotherapy
- Anaemia before or after surgery (perioperative anaemia)
Benefits Of Jilazo 100mg Injection:
1. Iron deficiency anaemia
Iron deficiency anaemia means that the body does not have enough iron to produce healthy red blood cells, which leads to tiredness, weakness, pale skin, and breathlessness. This injection delivers iron directly into the blood, so it bypasses the stomach and works for patients who cannot take oral iron or whose iron levels need to be built up fast.
2. Postpartum anaemia
Heavy blood loss during delivery can leave a new mother low on iron. This injection can restore iron stores quickly, often with a single dose, which helps her regain energy while she looks after her baby.
3. Anaemia related to cancer and chemotherapy
Cancer and chemotherapy can lower the haemoglobin level. Giving iron into a vein helps support haemoglobin levels in these patients when iron is lacking.
4. Perioperative anaemia
Low haemoglobin before or after surgery raises the chance of needing a blood transfusion. Correcting iron deficiency with this injection can help improve haemoglobin and may reduce the need for transfusion.
Side Effects Of Jilazo 100mg Injection:
Most side effects are mild and go away on their own. Tell your doctor if they continue or worry you.
Common side effects of Iron Isomaltoside:
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Pain or discomfort at the injection site
- Nausea
- Skin rash or itching
- Flushing
- Low phosphate level in the blood
Mechanism Of Action Of Jilazo 100mg Injection:
Jilazo 100mg Injection is an iron replacement (haematinic) medicine. The iron is tightly bound to isomaltoside 1000, a linear carbohydrate, which allows it to be released slowly to the body’s iron-binding proteins with little risk of free iron toxicity. After the injection, the complex is taken up by cells of the reticuloendothelial system, mainly in the liver and spleen, and the iron is then used by the bone marrow to produce haemoglobin and new red blood cells. This is how it refills iron stores and corrects anaemia.
