Description
Introduction Of Derimap Injection:
Derimap Injection is a bronchodilator injection that combines Etofylline and Theophylline. It is used to open the airways and ease breathing in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other conditions that cause airway narrowing. Each ml contains Etofylline 84.7 mg and Theophylline 25.3 mg, with benzyl alcohol 0.2% as a preservative, so a 2 ml ampoule has twice these amounts.
Derimap Injection is given by a doctor or a trained nurse, either into a muscle (IM) or slowly into a vein (IV), and should never be self-injected. The doctor decides the dose according to your age, weight, breathing problem, and any other medicines you take. When it is given into a vein, it is injected slowly because a fast injection can cause palpitations and a fall in blood pressure. It is usually used for short-term relief of breathing difficulty, and the doctor may switch you to tablets or inhalers afterwards.
Tell your doctor before treatment if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, an overactive thyroid, liver or kidney problems, or a stomach ulcer. Smoking, certain antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin and erythromycin, and some other medicines can change theophylline levels in the blood. Report a racing heartbeat, tremors, severe nausea, or seizures at once.
Uses Of Derimap Injection:
- Asthma
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
- Acute and chronic bronchospasm
- Chronic bronchitis and emphysema
Benefits Of Derimap Injection:
1. Asthma
In asthma, the muscles around the airways tighten and the lining swells, which causes wheezing, chest tightness, and breathlessness. This injection relaxes the airway muscles and opens the air passages, which helps breathing return to normal during an attack or an episode of severe bronchospasm.
2. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
COPD is a long-term lung condition in which airflow is blocked and breathing becomes difficult. The medicine widens the airways, helps clear the obstruction, and relieves cough, wheezing, and shortness of breath, especially during flare-ups.
3. Acute and chronic bronchospasm
Bronchospasm is a sudden tightening of the airway muscles. This injection loosens these muscles and improves airflow to the lungs, so more oxygen reaches the blood.
4. Chronic bronchitis and emphysema
These conditions damage the airways and air sacs and make breathing hard over time. A bronchodilator helps reduce airway narrowing and eases the symptoms of wheezing and breathlessness.
Side Effects Of Derimap Injection:
Most side effects are mild and settle as the effect of the dose wears off. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you are worried about them.
Common side effects of Etofylline and Theophylline:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Headache
- Restlessness
- Difficulty sleeping
- Fast or irregular heartbeat
- Tremors
- Pain at the injection site
Mechanism Of Action Of Derimap Injection:
Derimap Injection is a methylxanthine bronchodilator. Both Etofylline and Theophylline relax the smooth muscles in the walls of the airways, which widens the air passages and allows air to flow more easily. Theophylline also reduces the sensitivity of the lungs to allergens and other triggers of bronchospasm. This is how the combination relieves wheezing and breathlessness.
