Description
Introduction Of Fluracil 500mg Injection:
Fluracil 500mg Injection contains Fluorouracil (also called 5-FU), an anticancer medicine from the antimetabolite group. It is used, alone or together with other chemotherapy medicines, to treat cancers of the colon, rectum, breast, stomach, and pancreas. Each 10 mL pack contains Fluorouracil 500 mg, and it is for intravenous (I.V.) use only.
Fluracil 500mg Injection is given as an injection or a continuous infusion into a vein, under the care of a doctor who has experience with cancer chemotherapy, in a hospital or a cancer centre. It is not for self-injection. The dose and schedule are worked out by your oncologist from your height, weight, the type of cancer, and your blood test results, and treatment is given in repeated cycles. Before treatment, your doctor may suggest a blood test for DPD deficiency, an inherited problem that makes it hard for the body to clear fluorouracil, which can cause very severe side effects.
Diarrhea, mouth sores, nausea, and a fall in blood counts are among the more common effects of this medicine. Drink plenty of fluids, avoid alcohol, and keep your mouth clean. Tell your doctor about every medicine you take, particularly warfarin and phenytoin, as well as any heart problems. Your doctor will check your blood counts and your liver and kidney function from time to time. Inform your doctor at once if you have severe or bloody diarrhea, painful mouth ulcers, fever, chest pain, confusion, or painful red palms and soles.
Uses Of Fluracil 500mg Injection:
- Colon cancer
- Rectal cancer
- Breast cancer
- Stomach (gastric) cancer
- Pancreatic cancer
Benefits Of Fluracil 500mg Injection:
1. Colorectal cancer
Fluorouracil is a mainstay of treatment for cancers of the colon and rectum. After surgery, it is given to destroy cancer cells that may have been left behind, which lowers the risk that the cancer will return. When the disease has spread, it helps to slow the tumour and ease symptoms.
2. Breast cancer
As part of combination chemotherapy, it helps to kill cancer cells in the breast and in other parts of the body, and may reduce the chance of the cancer coming back after surgery.
3. Stomach and pancreatic cancers
In advanced cancers of the stomach and pancreas, it is combined with other medicines to slow the growth of the tumour, relieve symptoms, and, in some patients, help them live longer.
Side Effects Of Fluracil 500 mg Injection:
Many side effects can be controlled with help from your treatment team. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you are worried about them.

Mechanism Of Action Of Fluracil 500 mg Injection:
Fluracil 500 mg Injection is an antimetabolite chemotherapy medicine. Fluorouracil is similar in shape to uracil, a natural building block of RNA, so cancer cells take it in as if it were a normal nutrient. Inside the cell, it is changed into active forms that block an enzyme called thymidylate synthase, which is needed to make DNA, and some of it is also built into RNA and DNA, where it causes damage. Cells that are dividing quickly, such as cancer cells, cannot copy their DNA properly, so they stop growing and die. This is how it works against cancer.
