Description
Introduction Of Tenolam Tablets:
Tenolam Tablets contain a fixed-dose combination of Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate 300 mg and Lamivudine 300 mg. Both medicines are antiretroviral agents belonging to the nucleotide/nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) class. The combination is used as part of antiretroviral therapy for the treatment of HIV-1 infection.
The product shown contains 30 tablets and is marketed by Hetero Healthcare. It is an oral, prescription medicine that should be used under appropriate medical supervision.
Uses Of Tenolam Tablets:
Tenolam Tablets are primarily used for:
- Treatment of HIV-1 infection as part of an appropriate antiretroviral regimen.
- Reducing the amount of HIV in the blood (viral load).
- Supporting recovery and maintenance of immune function.
- Reducing the risk of HIV-related illnesses and complications when used consistently with other prescribed HIV medicines.
Tenolam is not a cure for HIV and should not be stopped without medical advice. Missing doses can allow HIV to develop resistance to treatment.
Benefits Of Tenolam Tablets:
- Helps control HIV replication: Tenofovir and lamivudine inhibit HIV replication, helping reduce viral levels.
- Supports immune function: Effective antiretroviral treatment can help maintain or improve CD4 cell counts.
- Combination therapy: Two antiretroviral medicines are provided in a single tablet, simplifying treatment.
- Helps reduce HIV-related complications: Sustained viral suppression can lower the risk of HIV-associated illnesses when treatment is taken consistently.
Side Effects Of Tenolam Tablets:
Some people may experience side effects, including:
- Headache
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain
- Heartburn
- Dizziness
- Lack of energy or tiredness
- Muscle or joint pain
- Back pain
- Rash or itching
Tenofovir-containing treatment can also be associated with kidney problems and bone-related effects. Rare but serious effects can include liver problems and lactic acidosis. Patients should undergo appropriate medical and laboratory monitoring as advised by their healthcare provider.
An important consideration is hepatitis B infection. Stopping lamivudine/tenofovir treatment in someone who has HBV can cause a serious worsening of hepatitis B, so treatment should not be discontinued without medical supervision.
Mechanism Of Action Of Tenolam Tablets:
Tenolam contains two medicines that interfere with HIV replication:
Lamivudine: Lamivudine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor. After activation inside cells, it interferes with the HIV reverse transcriptase enzyme and prevents formation of viral DNA.
Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate: Tenofovir is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor. It is converted to its active form inside cells and inhibits HIV reverse transcriptase, interfering with the formation of viral DNA.
Together, these medicines slow the multiplication of HIV and reduce the amount of virus in the body. They do not eradicate HIV, so continued antiretroviral treatment is necessary as prescribed.
