Description
Introduction Of Firmagon 80mg Injection:
Firmagon 80mg Injection is a hormone therapy medicine belonging to the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist class, used in the treatment of advanced hormone-dependent prostate cancer in adult men.
Firmagon 80mg Injection is administered by a doctor or nurse as a subcutaneous injection into the abdominal area; it must never be injected into a blood vessel and should not be self-administered. This medicine must be injected immediately after reconstitution with the solvent provided. The recommended starting dose is usually two consecutive injections of 120mg, followed by a monthly maintenance injection of 80mg, which releases the medicine slowly over one month. This medicine is not intended for use in women or children.
Injection site reactions and hot flushes are among the most common effects of this medicine. Your doctor may monitor your heart rhythm and blood sugar levels while you are on treatment, especially if you have any cardiovascular condition or diabetes. Tiredness and dizziness are also common, so avoid driving or engaging in activities requiring attention if you experience these effects. Inform your doctor immediately if you notice irregular heartbeat, severe pain at the injection site, or signs of an allergic reaction.
Uses Of Firmagon 80mg Injection:
- Advanced hormone-dependent prostate cancer
Benefits Of Firmagon 80mg Injection:
Advanced prostate cancer
Prostate cancer occurs in the prostate, a gland found only in men, and depends on testosterone to grow and spread. Firmagon 80mg Injection contains Degarelix, a synthetic hormone blocker that directly and immediately reduces testosterone levels in the body by blocking the natural GnRH hormone, without causing an initial testosterone surge. This helps stop or slow the growth and spread of prostate cancer cells and is also used before and alongside radiotherapy in high-risk cases.
Side effects of Firmagon 80mg Injection:
Most side effects do not require any medical attention and disappear as your body adjusts to the medicine. Consult your doctor if they persist or if you’re worried about them.

Mechanism Of Action Of Firmagon 80mg Injection:
Firmagon Injection contains Degarelix, a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor antagonist. It works by binding to receptors in the pituitary gland, immediately blocking the release of hormones that stimulate testosterone production. Since prostate cancer cells rely on testosterone to grow, this rapid reduction in testosterone helps stop or slow the growth and spread of cancer cells.
